refurbing a pair of front struts at the moment,the bearings were not looking bad so i just wanted to give them a clean and some new grease .
here is what it looks like but i am not sure of the type of the grease i used is right ????????

cleaned bearing

greased the first layer with that stuff on the pic

put that round thingy with metal balls on top

greased again on top

Image

seated the metal round thing on top

and fitted the plastic protector nicely ,checked how smooth the whole thing turns by hand

and seated this bit on top

does it all look right ?????? especially the type of the grease ????
what the hell is PTFE ?????

PTFE is the chemical name for the trade name 'Teflon'.

That grease looks a bit thin to me, id rather a nice gooey type that I could be sure was going to stay in there really.

Like the stuff i use for the headset bearings on my bike, which is essentially a very similar setup to the strut bearings you have there:

yeah this one felt a bit runy once sprayed but than seems to get thicker after 5 mins

Thats the problem with aerosol stuff, very thin I prefer it out the tub personally Wink

a tub of general purpose grease goes a long way.

bearing looks almost new.

so you reckon that grease wont work JB ?????

that black stuff covering the bearing is underbody sealent spray i was on about to you earlier ,i used it on the springs as well after treating the rust
