"sir are u sure u have a cat fitted to your car"!!!
i no i "had" a cat fitted cause it was taken off today in place of a de-cat and they told and showed me the cracks int he flange bit that joins the 2 together

my car is a 91 h reg and i also keep geting told that the down pipes are different for the cat and non cat versions is this true????

Surely you don't have to change downpipes if you put on a de-cat though. I've put on a de-cat and haven't changed the downpipe and all seems fine.

get it welded up then grind it back.

The flange is pish on them. The bottom is to small and leaks easily even on new ones, build up the flange with weld it'll be much better.

get it welded up then get it ground down flush.

It does work.

As long as the welder isn't a complete muppet and uses superglue and bit of pepsi can! (I have seen that done on sills! lol) it'll work fine.
