its cheap enough and easy enough 2 to get new ones, i got mine from Renault as they aint pricey coz there just bolts......right pain in the cunt......not that i would know aye Chris Wink Wink

Morning Chaps Very Happy

Last night we managed to pull the driveshaft off, and lots of small pin things fell out Shocked they came out at the end where those three ball things are (tripod joint ?) Can these have fell into the gearbox? Rolling Eyes
This is really hard! We just about know what we are doing (haha!) but the Haynes is fairly difficult as it presumes that you know the exact name for everything and we don't Embarassed
The next step is to lift the geatbox up and out of the engine bay. Do we really need a hoist?Or could a fairly strong person lift it out themselves?

I'm sorry for being such a thicko Embarassed but it's too late for us to turn back and get someone else to do it Shocked Mad

nah lift it out by hand thats how I do it.

The rollers fallen out of the driveshat isn't good looks like a driveshafts on the shopping list now.

Oh shit Confused the three ball thingies are still on the end of the driveshaft but when Chris ( my willing helper haha ) popped off the driveshaft there was 'a noise' and all those pins fell on the floor. I take it we can't just pack them all back in?

you can try but you'll somehow need to get the circlippy thing back on. Make sure theres no grit in there or it will bugger it up in no time.

i used it again today to crack off the caliper bolts, i've had no probs using it so far, it gives great leverage and yes there is an angle on it but so do the breaker bars.

however i do agree, a proper breaker bar is the preferred tool for the job but i simply could not get enough leverage with mine to crack off the strut to hub bolts or the caliper bolts.
used the wheel breaker bar and had the bolts freed off very quickly.


leverage is just a matter of length..and i havent seen a breaker bar with an angle on it...

its no biggy, its just that cos of that angle on the wheel one, it is easy to slip off the nut/bolt when applying lots of load and rounded the head off...

UNDO THE DRIVE SHAFTRETAINING BOLT, REMOVE THE SUSPENSION BOLTS, REMOVE THE BRAKE CALIPER, INSERT THE SPIDER, THEN INSERT THE SUNSPLINES INTO PLACE THEN PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER, EASY... WILLING HELPER SUSSED IT EASY PEASY

I dunno - my 'willing helper' wrote that not me! Surprised

Anyhow, we eventually got it off and got a driveshaft from the scrappy for £15. We managed to do the clutch, not impressed at the fact that it took 10 minutes to get the new clutch in after p!ssing about for hours trying to remove the driveshafts Evil or Very Mad Flushed the coolant yesterday and put everything back where it should be, engine starts again (phew!) just need to refill the gearbox with oil. Do I have to get the Tranself Renault one that Haynes reccomends or is there another you experts would reccomend? Only ask cos the Renault dealer is a trek

Go to your local factors and get 80w gearbox oil..

ATF? Automatic transmission fluid? Same stuff you put in the power steering?
