they have never been right on the chamade ,which i believe is ICV related and i will replace the damm thing with another to see the difference .
the problem basicly is the revs dropping to an unacceptable level now and again especially before take in off in the 1st gear (as you do) ,now this is ICV deffo

but then i realised something else today ,the engine is hot the revs go straight down if i stick in neutral from 2nd driving in town etc, opened the bonnet up after parking to see the airfilter is boiling hot as its touching the top rad hose and close to ever feckin hot thing else in the bay .
my question is ,could so much hot air cause the revs dropping or even dieing???
shall i go back to the good old airbox ?????

I had something similar on my Clio 16v.

Have cleaned the ISCV numerous times and it still does it, so time for a new one I think.

The dropping revs isn't as bad as it used to be since I cleaned the 'arm' on the TPS. I marked the original position of the bolts and cleaned it up using a wire brush. The whole thing was covered in muck and this seems to have made a bit of difference to the car.

Might be worth trying this.

dieing somehow feels like related to heat to me

I have a viper on mine (stupid impulse buy!), so it isn't heat that is causing my problem. Mine does have breather filters on the hose going to the ISCV, I wonder if it would help if I replaced them.

even the viper might be getting hot enough to cause trouble ,dont you think ?

i got to sort that hot airintake problem asap now as it pisses me off big time

It's possible.

Might stick the airbox back on and see how it runs.

It does seem to be an intermitant fault though. It did it yesterday, but not this morning (before the matrix discovery!)

yes the hot filter will be causign an issue, fit it properly.

Vauxhalls are really bad for stutterign with induction kits due to heat.

theres really a whole load of problems it could be.

sorry if this sound silly but can you not just put a heat sheet around the airfilter or box?

have the air intake coming in from the bottom of the car

remove the airbox and fit it onto the pipe directly. Its lower down and the air feed goes right onto the bottom of it.

you are on about the piper cross stuck on top of the bottm half of the airbox when i first bought the car ,that was the first thing i changed on this car 5 months ago .
can you not see the airfilter touching the top rad hose on that picture ?????

alternatively ,is it smart to make an extension to the air intake pipe and position the air fiilter further away ????
i remeber you saying once ,the further the filter is from the TB the crapper it will be though Rolling Eyes

First of all that is one beauty of an engine schakal hopefully mine will look like that next summer.

Does the engine not run better when it’s got dense cold air to mix with? I thought thats the point of those filters, R19’s are known for having really hot engines therefore all you get is hot air going into the mix which lowers the performance. You would need a heat shield to stop the filter absorbing the heat and a pipe to push in cold air from outside the engine bay.

if im wrong I apologise but im just going of what ive had in the past.

changed the ICV today and relocated the air filter and the problem is still there ,had an incident where i had to drop the gear from 3rd to the 2nd going into a fuel station and the car died as i was turning the steering wheel nearly went into the fecking wall because of engine dieing and the power steering getting harder . happening often now ,what the hell is this ????

can it be ignition related ????????

i remember you saying the lack of speed sensor on the speedo cable would cause problems but i would not expect them to be that bad .got to get the cable off the rt pretty quick now.
cheers chris ,that was driving me nuts
