Ebay... as a product.

Although I don't use it much, I think it is a great way to get rid of stuff you don't want, and to buy stuff that you didn't want until you were browsing one day and spotted it!

The terminology used in the site seems to have a bit of psychology behind it, and may even be misleading, i.e. 'Items/Auctions I have won', 'Items/Auctions I have lost', 'The winning bidder' etc.

If you think about it, have you 'lost' anything if you weren't prepared to give more than anyone else for a particular item? Correspondingly have you 'won' anything by splashing out more money than anyone else on any given item?

Plenty of thought has gone into the Ebay system to make it as attractive and convenient as possible. Don't be fooled.

In general, everyone wants to 'win' everything, it's human nature.

If this desire can be satisfied by spending an extra £10 or whatever on an auction because you don't want to 'loose' or be a 'looser' or be reminded by 'my ebay' of all the times you have been a 'looser' etc then you will have more incentive to bid.

i see what u mean and yes ppl do sometimes seem to loose a grasp on what they are doing and end up spending more than if they went to the shops and bought it brand new....just to "win" that auction!

it dont affect me like that...

if im not willing to spend "£30" on something, and some one else is

and thay are the WINNER and i am the LOSER, then woopy doos...

im not going to take pills over it...

i use ebay to buy cheap things, and sell stuff.

not to please my self in winning all the time

play poker!

far more entertaing if your into the win/loose thing

and if my ebay is bugging you that much about the things you lost, delet them..simple problem solved

i prolly have the wrong end of the stick here.

but what im saying is, if i dont win something on ebay im not going to think of my self a looser..

so much so that it will affect me...

morelike "bah, i lost" not "omg i lost i am such a looser how will i live"

im prolly way of track..but i thought id say that

Items you have won - Items you have bought
Items you have lost - Items you have been outbid on

It's a lot less glamorous, but if someone was buying a house or bidding for a car or article at a local liquidation auction the win/loose terminology isn't the vocabulary used.

Maybe it's just a sign of the times.

yes it is...if u are at an auction u r basically tryin to out do (compete) with the other ppl taking part....so u do either win or lose...its not like buying something that is just there to be bought.

I think Ebay is a godsend, no question.

Take random car bits for example. Where would you get 'em otherwise?

Forums? Who regularly checks the wanted sections in forums?

ad papers? hah!

Jump on ebay and if someone has one for sale, likelihood is that it will be on there.

As long as you're not a muppet who has an obsessive compulsion to click on 'bid' all the time regardless of what the thing is worth, Ebay has no downsides IMO.

yeah thats the only downside...th scammers. there is a lot of trust in ebay, as in you sendmoney off on the goodwill that the person will send you the goods.

had a mate who won a "turbo kit" for an rx-7, western union'd him 700 quid and that was the last he heard of him.

he actually saw the guy selling something very similar again on ebay, so hes obviously making a living out of ripping ppl off. he sent him a nasty email, for what its worth....guy was in the states

but i agree with neal, its a godsend. the amount of stuff (shit?) i have had off there that u just otherwise wouldnt find easily or cheaply is amazing
