hurray ,my 2 electric mirrors of ebay just arrived today ,i am well happy with that after a year of having no electric mirror functions on my drivers side.
my car is a black r19 1.8rt and the only difference between my cars electric mirrors and a r19 16v mirror is the little outside temp.thingy underneath the mirror assembly apart from that all the same .same switches ,same color wires etc.

the plastic covers of the mirrors i had of ebay had cracks on them and nobody else wanted them .so it was a good buy and i really did not need the blue coloured mirrors in my black r19 .so i will use my existing plastic cover and use the insides of the new mirrors .
here we go:

i have heard about a few people that cracked their mirror glass while trying to take it out .after messing with a few mirrors i found a few techniques and the best one is called "strong string behind the glass technique" Laughing

see that string ,its off a shoe but will do the job nicely
Image

put the string behind the glass as shown
Image

once you got something like this, pull the strings sharply
Image

here is what comes out .note the alloy plates behind the glass
the mirror itself(back side)
Image

and where it clips into. thats the bit i will remove in oreder to put into my existing black mirror assembly.there are 3 screws holding the whole lot as seen on picture
Image

at this point i realise that the original mirror has been broken and had 2 more mirrors been stuck on top without removing the old broken ones.so i got 3 layers of mirrors which i dont really need if i want my mirrors to heat as well.

Image

so i took all layers out without breaking the top one(thats the only usefull one)its a quite easy job when it comes to after market sticky tape type glass .a stanly knife will do it easy.
but when it comes to the original renault glass (the bottom layer) its a real pain.hopefully none of you will have the same problem.

here are the components (layers)of the glass bit

1-the plastic that clips into the assembly is also a frame for the glass
Image

2-the glass itself .this is the after market one with the sticky pad on the back(this was stuck on top of the other 2 glasses) and this will hopefully do the job when i am finished.
Image

3-this is the alloy bits that is originally stuck on the original glass from the back for heating purposes .as i had to remove the remaining broken glass stuck to these alloy pads i need to stick them back on the after market mirror with some sort of glue now.and put all three layers back together and i am not sure at this point that i will be able to have heated mirrors.
Image

so when all these 3 layers come together ,it looks like this fromthe back of the plastic frame. note that little alloy circles going through the plastic frame to keep the mirror held by the plastic frame. there are 7 of those circle things spread evenly .
so its plastic at the back ,alloy heaters in the middle and the mirror in the front.
Image

once they are all together i will put the 2 wires on the alloy heads heating the whole alloy surface up and the mirror itself of course .and clip the plastic frame into the assembly .
job done.
thanks for reading

why did you do all of that? I mean pop the thing off the rivets etc?

Also pop the mirror off with a screwdriver, takes 2 seconds! Lever the tab out and thats it.

The problem with them not working is multiple layers of glass like Schakal showed and more commonly corrosions. Most of the time the wire connectors corrode away or the spade terminal breaks off.

heating is the most problemed issue on this mirrors .i hope you dont have layers of after market glass on your mirror like i had jonnyboy. there is 1 thing i did not mention on the project :
those 2 alloy plates have two little metalish square connectors . they sem to play some sort of fuse role in the action.they are situated between the two alloy plates

Image

and they are put there with some brown creamy stuff which i think melts with the heat and lets the square connector slide down so that it will only touch one of the alloy plates which will disconnect the 2 alloys plates and stop them heating continously . of course on the picture you cant see how its working cause on the original renault glass the whole system is covered up with a brown sticky tape and the miror stick on top of that .

the brown stuff is dilecetric, its there acting as a resistor. otherwise its a direct short circuit which will melt the wiring if you remove it.

read your pm's mofo!

I also have a pop up blocker. I just went to my profile and turned the pm pop up off. Its not hard to look in the top corner to see if you have a new message.

They are the ones i'm referring to Huw. use a screwdriver to lever the tabs out.

the other wire clip style I have only seen once and they are crap, it never closs enough to pop the glass out.
