I've read in some places that you should tape up/insulate all electrical components (coil, fuseboxes, spark plugs) but I did it once, got water everywhere, car wouldn't start but water eventually evaporated off and it started again!

you should not be pointing the washer to the places where it should not be Laughing

but than its water at the end of the day ,especially now its summer and it will evaporate even without the help of the engine heat

ive always done mine with the engine running, put something on the pedal to bring the tick over up a bit so the water wont stall it, your get a lot of steam from manifold but thats not a prob

that way you dont get the problem of trying to start a wet engine

who takes that long to steam clean an engine tho?

plus, will always be cooler due to the water/steam over it!

That's bizarre!!! That's only the third R19 (diesel) that I've seen with the Lucas fuel pump. All the others I've seen have been Bosch! And it's a TD!

Was more surprised that there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which car gets what.

I had my TD steam cleaned, it ended up looking like a pig sty again in a couple of days. Although that may have something to do with the rally tracks we have in have here in Wales.
