Is it just the rear dogbone one that can make it difficult to select gears or can any of 'em cause it?

Cos the gears are being troublesome to select on the Clio, and I know it was one of the mounts Chris replaced.

Also, how hard a job is it to change?

Sure you got oil in it (the gearbox that is)

When you say hard, how hard do you mean?

Chris replaced the dogbone didn't he.

I stupidly never replaced my dogbone but I hear it's a case of simply taking the old one off and replacing with the new one.

yes I replaced the dog bone, its an easy job but it shouldn;t need changed again. all it does is stop the engine swingign about, so as long as the gear lever isn;t swinging back and forth 4 inches when you brake/accel thats not the problem.

Well there's a fair bit of play in the stick on acceleration and there's definitely a mount away because there's a rather loud knocking when you step on the gas hard and ease off the throttle at high revs.

Gearbox oil might be worth checking as the N/S inner driveshaft boot is weeping oil out.

At it's worst trying to select any forward gear was like trying to select reverse with out lifting up the ring-collar.

It only started being arsey today, and it only happened about 10% of the time. Other 90% gear changes were relatively smooth and hassle-free.

Well, just been out in the car for about a 6 mile round trip and gear changes were sweet as a nut. Didn't have to fight with the car at all.

So another prob seemingly fixed itself, typical Renault!

Although I'll still check the 'box oil and there's deffo a mount away.

Well the 'box oil is fine and plentiful supply which is surprising given that that boot's away.

Selecting gears keeps getting worse, and sometimes impossible but I've noticed that blipping the throttle allows painless gear changes, so I'm now 99% sure it's the mount causing my gear-change problems.

yup, why woudl blipping the throttle affect the angle of the engine it won't swing much if at all with no load on it. revving it makes the box spin up quicker (even though the clutch is pressed) thus easier changes
