my car is from mid '92 and has done around 60k miles... when releasing the clutch quickly or stopping the engine, my exhaust often rattles (mostly on latter occasion).. is this because i have a bad mount/mounts? i cant move the engine about by hand very much i think (moves about a tad more at cambelt end).. exhaust is custom cat-back..

front 2 hold up better but the rear one will probably be pretty much dead by now...

tbh the rear mount lasts the longest, the front cambelt side will have torn and seperated and the gearbox one on its way.

the rear one collapses but tends to be a big thump when decellerating.

I guess our Ph2 shell has done about 100k now and i've only ever had to change the gearbox front mount once. Engine is out at the minute whilst i'm doing some work on the bay but I checked the rear mount and she's holding up very strong.

I seriously doubt these are the original Renault items fitted in '96 but there's nothing in the service history and Leanne's not had them done so who knows. I guess the life span will depend on how it's been treated all it's life.

most of them are the original mounts and they usually last well over 100k tbh

but if you drive liek a tit then they will fail.

Only problem is when you replace it one the new mounts are not as well made and fail pretty quickly in comparison, same goes for exhaust etc as well though!

hmm.. conflicting answers.. i guess an inspection is called for.. is it easy to tell if one is in bad shape just by looking at it? gearbox one looks ok to me..

If it's totally destroyed then you'll know by the way it's sitting. If it's looking perrished or if bits of rubber are missing then it's proberbly a good time to replace the mount to.
