Any tips on what to leave on and take off, is there any gthings that arent visable that need to be d/c?

any tips what so ever?

lambda, is an easy one to forget...

just lift it real slow chkin all round if in doubt

its a ph1 r19 16v, im goint to bring the downpipe out with the engine so do i still have to d/c the lambda?

Is it possible to bring the down pipe out intact with the engine? I think you'll find it'll try and fight the power steering rack and loose. Just undo the two bolts that hold the Manifold to the Downpipe and unclip the lamda sensor as it's really very simple.

im doing this tomorrow as well Mick, one of the downpipe nuts is stuck fast and rounded off. Therefore it has to come out as one. Chris reckons it's easy. I'm taking his word for it.

Besides, i don't really care if something gets buggered on the way out.

Hey I didn't say it couldn't be done Neil... brute force overcomes most obsticles at the end of the day. I merely said it's easier to split that joint as you will find out when it comes to lifting the lump cos that mid section goes a long way with the CAT attached and that's a proper c u n t to get off whilst underneath the car to!

right, well ive got 3 month to fight the steering rack, i dont start driving until then, so im sure i'll get it out downpipe intact, the only problem i can see coming is getting it off at the cat, but ive got a straight through exhaust to put on, so i may aswell hack the bolts off.

any one think of anything else to d/c as i only work on triumphs and they dont have ECU's etc so ive never had this problem.

I wasnt being funny Mick, it is clearly MUCH easier to take the downpipe off, just saying sadly i no longer have that option Sad

its not all bad though, the cat is already off so i dont have to do battle with those bolts!

right if the downpipes staying on the lamdab has to be unplugged and the wiring loom unscrewed fromt he subframe.

The lump will come out with the downpipe attached but not with the cat on it as well, it will but you'll break something basically.

right all done and dusted.

pikey engine crane i rented.

cleared the bay of most ancillaries that might concievably get in the way

whilst i was doing this, it became apparent what the car's original fault had been that the guy i bought it off hadnt been able to trace.

I attached my rope to the lifting eyes and lifted. simple! or was it?

Well, erm, no. Because of the downpipe flange getting stuck under the steering rack it was necessary to do a bit more before i could actually get it out. In the end i removed the alternator and power steering sections off the block and lifted with the rope around the manifolds in order that i could tilt the engine backwards as i lifted. I also had to pull the engine towards the front of the bay whilst simultaneously pumping on the crane handle. A little help would have been nice here, but Simon (Wicked Neo) overslept and didnt turn up Rolling Eyes

lowered down onto my stolen homebase trolley. Interestingly, i had to put a pound in that trolley to get it and couldnt bring it into my garden right away because some shit had parked right outside my gate. It therefore waited outside for a few hours until the car moved. Yep, the pound had magically disappeared.

split the gearbox off, ready for Simon to collect, should be here any time now....

No i am not honestly saying that chris, i merely said that i had to change the rope position in order to lift in a way that would allow me to tilt it enough.

simon has now been and gone with his gearbox. Nice guy. Also various other bits and bobs to sort some niggly little things on his car.

under neath the car, follow the wire to yhr plug on the drivers side of the subframe. Its clipped onto the subframe. At the rear mount the wire is held on by a metal bracket.

if you leave it out you snap the wire, like I did on mine Rolling Eyes 1st time I have even done that but done it I did, had to solder the wires back together

ok then, some one suggested to me just to drop the subframe? would this any easier or is there more work?
what are the pros and cons of this method?

haha, i was not expecting neil to have done as much as he had done so was expecting to get mucky and there is nothing worse that driving 90 miles home with manky oily hair hence the benny hat lol
