no it does not help at all ,are those all the wires and connectors that go into the manifold ???

the guy at the scrap yard will probably get the wiring loom out for me but i would like to know he is taking the right bits out .

the wiring loom goes all over, it goes to the starter, senders etc, its all 1 piece and goes everywhere. The scrappy man will cut it out.

thats what scares me the most , it will give me trouble if he cuts one of the wires short .

its good to know its 1 piece though ,i might keep an eye on him while cutting it out.

Well if you want to use it, you need to stop him cutting the wires AT ALL dont you!

of course i want to use the loom

so whats the proper way to do it then,i will do it myself .

how many wires (approximately) are there on a wiring loom ?

how are you meant to remove the wires rather than cutting ?

as i said, just unclip all the connectors from whereever theyre plugged in. It's not hard at all, but the scrappy man would just cut because its that little bit easier.

thats what it will be like.

There are a load of pclips that will need a 10mm socket to get them off as well in places.

The plastic channel on front of the box that houses the wires unclips so you don't need to undo the big bolts.

so i will swap the whole thing with the one i have in my car , looks like a bit of a fiddley job to me but will get there slowly i suppose.

yes, wiring scares me a little which is why I was reluctant to tackle a project like this.
I messed around a fair bit with the wiring on my mini (that photo was about the size of the loom for the whole car!) and paid for my mistakes, including part of the under bonnet wiring catching fire (twice) on the motorway Shocked

Also had the 'interesting' problem that the car wouldn't start unless the wipers were on - good imobiliser Very Happy but that's another story

this was my mini I was talking about, the wiring on these cars is crap to start with to give you an idea, the main loom is full of in-line fuses (the main box only has 4 fuses!) runs along the front of the engine bay where it is exposed to spray etc, so it is prone to just dying in the wet, so i tried to do some rewiring (including putting a whole new fuse box in to sort things out (and to power my 6 spot lights!) but it was a bit trial and error, got it sorted in the end after a few teething problems as mentioned above.

Now I'm pretty confident I could totaly re-wire a mini (I can probably quote which colour of wire is for what!) - and if I get another one that's the first thing I'll do, but I don't feel I could tackle the electrics in a modern car with fuel injection etc.

yeah, mals is right didn't mean to put you off, it looks like it's just a case of plugging things in anyway, with the mini it was a case of making new connections, splicing cables etc.

wirings easy! Dash loom is far more intresting!

There is the dash loom,

rear loom drivers side which power fuel pump, central locking, boot light etc,

passenger side rear loom central locking and speakers

Engine loom

front lighting loom

foglight loom includes indicators on the ph1 16V's

The wirings pretty easy actually.

Minis are crap for looms, like you say mark best thing is to re-wire it, and do it properly!

Swapping/replacing sectiosan of loom is ok if its out the car, trying to overhead solder whilst in the rains not so easy!
