I'm mating a gearbox from a F3P to a F7P. The F3P has a tin sump and uses a tie bar to connect the bottom of the gearbox to the engine.
The F7P has a alloy sump and the tie bar does not fit.

Is it okay to swap the sumps over and use the tie bar on the F7P?
I think the correct holes are there for the tie bar, but I am not sure if the sump is deep enough or if the holes will match up.

im pretty sure it will fit fine, early F7Ps have the tin sump and tie bar setup too.

yes but why?

use the ally sump as its bigger capacity and has baffles in it.

the gap it leaves att the bottom is fine.

The gap means that dirt and water can get in around the clutch and possibly work its way up to the flywheel sensor too. There is nothing suitable to cover it with either.

Structurally it's probably okay, but I would rather have that tie bar on so it doesn't look so bodged.
It's peace of mind I suppose.

One down side to bigger capacity is that the oil can go to one side during hard driving, which might starve the engine of oil. I think it will make little or no positive difference to have a bigger capacity sump.

Are the baffles used for extra cooling? Or are they on the inside and used for something else?

ok, all the peopel that have done 100k with cars liek this must just be lucky eh.

Baffles are used to keep the oil away from the crank.

Tin sump 16V has a baffle but its half the size of the ally one.

How can a bigger sump capacity have a downside? It can't.

You also need the hook dipstick
