It snapped the other day.

Bought a new one for £20 from Renault, told them it had Bendix ABS and have just spent the last couple of hours trying to fit it.

Everything was going fine until I came to try and hook the cable end round the clutch plate fork and it's too short. Only about 2cm, but there is no way it is going to stretch.

Have Renault given me the wrong cable or could it be something else? The inner cable is free from the outer cable and it doesn't look like it's caught anywhere.

Any help??

Thanks

Have you threaded the cable on the clutch pedal sector correctly? there is a loop on the top of the pedal, that the cable must go through. If that is ok then it must be that the self adjusting mechanicsm is jammed.

Pedal is not caught on anything and cable is definitely through the guide.

I would have thought if it was the wrong cable it would be miles out? Rather than just a few cm?

I can't really tell if the pedal itself is knackered, any tips on what to look at?

Although saying that, the guide arms return to their natural postion ok, so I think the retainer spring is fine.

Thanks for the help, this is doing my nut.

Silly question but worth bearing in mind. Are you sure the cable itslef has taken the correct route and further more, are you 100% sure the cable securing gromit has come through the bulkhead and locked in to place correctly?

I've had to change Leanne's clutch cable about 8 times now trying to get it right and they are a royal pain in the proverbial and if the cable isn't coming in to the cabin corretly you will see issues with length! If not it has to be the rachet which is due a replacement and they come as a complete pedal unit new... not bad though at just over £20 inclusive from Renault

Thanks for the helpful replies.

I have now sorted it.

I had to take the clutch pedal off, remove the spring and reset the ratchet.

It wouldn't stay in place so I had to mount it and then put it back together once on the pedal bar.

Can't really explain it properly but it is ok now.

Thanks people!
