Hiya guys
I have just bought myself a reno 19 16 valve chamde phase 2 its the big boot version 5 door is tidy but guess what?it blew up;-(
So ive gone and bought a no mot no tax reno 19 16 valve 3 door little boot modle my questions are these.

1)will exhaust be swapable as i have a custom exhaust on the car with good engine as its 3 door little boot going too 5 door big boot?

2)is there and performace figures for both above cars as the new 3 door one seems quiker i suspect its lighter or has better engine?

3)Can i get my rev limiter raised to say 7.6k it kicks in just as i change gear in 2nd and too get the most out of these engines i think the rev limiter could o with being raised to at least 7.6Wink

4)If there is a mod such as putting in a new resistor any diagrams please?

5)Also at what rpm would the car not be able to fuel at or bottom end not handle?

6)I am not sure if my car is cammd but it doesnt seem to start pulling properly till about 4+k i have had red top astra before which was 16valve and that had power threw out whole rev range is this how these engines are?

Many thanks to anyone who can answer any of my questions Paul.

1, the back box is too short for a chamade

2, keep the hatch, it will handle alot better

3,there is a chip on ebay that raises it to 8k

4, dont bother with the resistors, its a load of bollocks what they say.

5,constant rpm would be around 7k safe, but i wouldnt like to sit on the limiter anyway.

6,this is the best thing about the F7P lump, let it wait a little bit to 4k and then bam off you go!

chears for reply mate

these chips on ebay do they do anything more then raise rev limiter?
Ie do they change the map adavance timing throw in more fuel?
I got a diagram for my escort rst fuel ECU and i paid 20p for a resistor which took my rev limit from 6.5 to 7.2k im looking for a simular cheep mod, if i was to get same thing done to my current ECU will the thing fuel ok up to 7.5k apart from 1st and 2nd i wont be hitting this limiter anyway its just in 2nd that limiter is too low when racing?

Do thses cars have manual clutch ratchets or self adjusting ones as it was crunching on downshift and upshif at hiish rpms despite my foot fully down on lcutch and having no clutch slip?

Does the 3 door and 5 door little boot vs big boot have a weight differnce the car that is a 3 door is a shed im talking ripd seats dingd body work been sat in a car park for a year as apose to the other 5 door one being near on mint apart from blown engine, if 3 door is lighter i think il just strip it have sum fun for a bit then swap to mint car and sell on me thinks;-) thanks Paul.

the chips raise the limiter and change the fuel maps, i dont think there is a way of tricking the ECU to change its limiter.

the cars have auto adjusting ratchets mounted on the pedal.

the 3door hatch has the weight advantage, and always seems to handle alot better, and if its a phase1 they are the one to choose as they always seem to be quicker out of the ph1/ph2 races.

Be warned about the consequences of wheelspins with these cars, the diff circlip has a habit of popping out when its wheelspun, have a look in knowledge base.

nice one have just been browsing threw the for slae section i am disapointed to say the least that i had not found this sight sooner these cars are worth next to nothing;_(

i paid £430 for a car with a k tek bumper 17s with all new tyres and k&n and a cd player as the engine blew up 30 mins after driving it i was guna put a new engine in it but now knowing its worth fuck all i might aswell put bumper and 17s on hatch and throw it away seing how it weighs more;-(

Any ideas on weight differnces?please thanks Paul.

your escort was a crap flap LE Jetronic, the 16V isn;t like that.

It either needs a new chip or a remap to raise the limit.

Also 2nd gear in ph1 is good for 68mph. And 62 in a ph2.

The chamade is not much heavier, think theres about 20kg's of difference.

The exhaust apart fromt he backbox is identical.

ph1 is 7.2 secs to 60 for both chammy and hatch and ph2 is 7.4.

Some cars pull better than others, its quite random. Some will pull fine from lows revs but a lot won;t pull until 4.5krpm.

The astras XE a better engine and also has 200cc's more so will pull better from lower down.

bottom end is ok to 8 stock. But you will not be making any power at all on a standard engine up there.

nice one thats put it into perspective a bit then 20kgs is fuck all soo why does the hatch handle better then if theres only 20kgs weight difference then that probably down to the extra doors lol is there any differnce body wise except the doors and bigger boot to give it better handling?
is it worth sticking engine from scabby hatch into the tidy saloon then?

just re red that both have same 0-60s oops

why is phase 1s that bit quicker is it that they have higher rev limiters?

How much am i looking at for a 2nd hand ECU that is chippd for higher revs, apart from raising rpms will there be any other gains? i am only used to turbos tuning not n/a engine tuning so youl have to excuse me rsts are alright engines btw mine flew in my mk2 fiesta mine ran on ke Jetronic thoe 18psi piper 285t2 fmi -31 stage 2 clutch was more then enuff to see of most cars;-)

ph1 is quicker because its lighter.

the ph2 is a good bit heavier and the ph2 has a different grearbox (shorter) to try and regain some of the ph1's pace.

Like an s1 rst and an s2.

The cvh turbos are ok but hardly at the cutting edge of engine managment!

I mind on the old Xr3's etc glueing the rotor arm up or using another cars rotor arm so the spring loaded rev limiter wouldn't kick in.

Hatch handles better as the car was designed as a hatch, they chucked the boot on the chamade to keep up with the jones' which were the belmont and orion. In theory the chammy should handle better due to stiffer rear but it doesn't.

The jury is still out on which looks better out of the chamade or the hatch

phase 1 id say hatch but phase 2 maybe chamade

ph1 is good in both guiss, neddy in a good way in hatch form and pimpish/gangsta in chamade.

ph2 chammy is better looking than the ph2 hatch though.

no, the fog lights are in the clusters on the phase 1. You cant put the phase 2 boot strip on either because the number plate wouldnt fit
