I had a lift to work recently in a friend's new Megane, and was impressed with it's panoramic roof. It allows a much greater amount of light and sense of space. Just wondered if it was possible to fit a 2nd sunroof into my mk1 Clio. I replaced my standard manual winding one with an electric one, so i have it spare. My biggest worry is the affect it might have on rigidity. When i fitted the electric one, i noticed the roof is only 1 thin sheet of metal, with little structural rigidity. I would have thought cutting a 2nd aperture wouldn't affect it too much, as all of the strength is in the frame. As long as it's not too close to the edge, which it won't be. I've photoshopped a pic to get a rough idea of how it would look. Plenty of older cars, such as the original Mini, Beetle and 2CV had full-length cloth roofs with no affect on structural strength, so this should be ok, shouldn't it?

Nope!

When you remove the roof lining you'lll see that the sunroof and it's framework pretty much fill the area. Where would the 2nd roof frame and runners go?

You might be able to remove the originals and put in two cheap and nasty aftermarket ones but it would look gash IMO.

Also, you would have to re-strengthen the car, as part of the roof would be removed! work more that cars worth tbh

As far as I know the roof surface itself isn't structural which is why it crumples in the event of a fairly serious smash-up. Can't see why you'd need to strengthen or add support to it though.
