I have been cleaning up my air box and realised there is a flap about 2" down inside where the cold air feed goes. It seems to have a spring on it so that when there is enough air pressure it opens.

E7J engine phase 2 1.4i

Whats the use in that, wouldn't that restrict the air flow?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

that flap carries warm air in to the box from exhaust manifold when needed ,just break the spring and tape the flap shut . i have this same stuff on my 1.8spi
apparently its not needed at all .

I dont have a warm air feed anymore as I have take that nasty looking guard off the manifold.

At the moment when I don't touch it it seals the cold air feed hole.

it sliek Schakal said, the thermostatic air elbow, its meant to maintain the inlet air temp at 20 degrees.

Remove the entire elbe and fit a tube in its place as its just sucking in warm underbonnet air and no cold stuff.
