Fuel Gauge

whats up with mine... :?

if i put petrol in, say a tenner's worth... it will go just over a quarter, then all of a sudden after a few miles the needle drops to nearly nothing.... i just cant work it out..

anyone?

The tank doesn't have the same cross sectional area from top to bottom so the distance the level drops per unit of volume taken out is not the same from full to empty and the guage is not clever enough to work it out accurately.

hmmm, how can i get it to work neal?

do you think i may have a dodgy fuel sender/pump unit... it is definately not how it should be, can never tell how much petrol i have left. :D

tanks a pretty even area tbh, not like scoobs and sierras etc.

The efi tanks also have a baffle area where the level and pump are so its not affected to badly by the cornering forces, or thats the theory anyway!

The problem is you have a scalextric controller in the tank which after years of goign up and down with a tenner here, tenner there it wears the constats away thus the gauges acts up.

If your lucky soon it will go 1/4 - empty - half - full - empty - full and so on.

lol if i put a tenner in a take corners fast it disapers and when it settles after like 5mins it starts rising again Shocked

the digi was a better design i reakon..

digi is a lot slower to respond, you can have the sender in your hand at full let it drop, 5 or so mins later the thing will start to count down on the gauge! lol

they both are pants really, mine sits at the bottom (right at the very botto) for a good 40 miles before a light comes on Laughing

but the digi stops at 1g then its like guess what is left time Shocked

the fuel gauge one also come son at 1 gallon, its a seperatre switch for the light btw.
