 Fuel problems

Did my engine con and the engine started sweet....Took it out for a small spin around the block...no death because the seats were'nt bolted in.

Had it ticking over in the back garden, this morning ready to take it out again...and it cut out and wont start?

Starters turning but nothings happening at all, not firing up

Fuel pump does'nt seem to be making a noise, when putting the ignision on?... It normally does.

Got this sh*t feeling its the fuel pump..had this replaced 8 months ago but theres is 2 iirc ..

Fuse and earths OK

does anyone one have any ideas, what it mite be? before I rip it apart later tonight.

yes theres 2 pumps but theres only 1 m,ain pump, the other is the lift pump in the reserve tank.

Is the engine cranking over? Is the tacho needled moving when its cranking? Is it sparking?

so you have a sparkbut the tachos not moving, if thats the case then the tacho doesn't work as it should jump when the ignitions turned on then when your cranking it it should be moving.

Can you hear the fuel pump relays pull in then click off?

Hmmm

Relays clicks on and off, but the fuel pump normally makes a noise as well, but its not now.

well if the relays working then its either the supply feed to the pump or the pumsp dead.

Yo!

My scirrocco was the same, a lift pump in the tank and then a main pump. I used to get all sorts of trouble with misfires and driving up hills.

I took a look at the main pump and it was ok...i looked at the lift pump and it wasnt there. I got one for 12 quid from the scrappy and it was great after that...

By the way!

those lift pumps scare the living sh#t out of me!

Eletrical connections submerged in the fuel?!? There is even a rheostat there!

I was driving around waiting for the bang! Cars still going though so must be ok! Smile

all in tank fuel pumps have the wires and everything else submerged in the fuel. If the connections tight then its ok, if its loose then it will risk sparking!

Fuel pumps been swapped still no sound or starting, anything else? Fuel cut off?

you could have a spark in the fuel tank and nothing would happen....there no oxygen Wink

Well...

the way i saw it was that when the tank was almost empty, both the wiring and the rheostat were exposed.

If there was a spark there would be plenty of fuel vapour to give you a sun burnt backside.

It goes against everything I have believed regarding electrics and fuel. It was just surprising for me as I am sure there is no way of being 100 percent sure of not getting a spark.

But hey...what do I know?

Fixed it!! Very Happy

There was a blown fuse next to the relay, in the relay box under the bonnet. didn't think there would be a fuse there Embarassed Im so dumb at times lol Rolling Eyes
