never fear as my hero capabilty returned, I got the valve off and its a vacuum valve. Presure goes from the outside in through it which should stop a vacuum forming in the tank.

So that'll be what's buggered on mine then? I think the valve is still buggered and the garage just drilled a hole in one of the breather pipes to let air in? They quoted me £60 to change the valve, but I didn't do it. Good job I don't go to that garage anymore me thinks! |

more than likely, that valve prevents the build up of a vacuum in the system.
The valve btw is the same on all 19 petrol filler necks. |

looking on gsf there only seems to be one in tank unit available so i'm presuming they are all the same? |

That's exactly my point, there was only ONE in tank unit.....so I bought it........and then garage told me it was wrong and so I was like "eh?". Like out of my choice of ONE.....I got the wrong one? Impossible lol. So yeah, that one I got was from GSF and according to Chris & Chet it's the right one |

hmmm maybe the garage aren't as good as they think they are then! this is hepful to me too as i may not need to change mine if that's the case! |

the 16V pumps are different to the 1.4's etc, stick a 1.4/1.7 etc pump on a 16V and it will run lean. |

fair enough! like i said earlier in this thread but probably got missed could i fuck the internal one off all together and buy an external one or is it loads of messing? |

Well you need to sort out a solid pick up in the base of the tank and even then it may need a lift pump. |

does the same job as an internal and to fit an external you need to remove the tank and bin the internal and fit a pick up pipe in its place |
