Yeah. Im thinking its either a) the relay or b)the factory fit immobiliser which sometimes cuts all electrics to the car when it feels like it. If anyone knows how to remove this....

is the factory fit immob the key in the glovebox one or the later plip activated one? Later plip one is scotch locks in the dash, it was the megane before they integrated it properly.

Anyway cranking but nothing, what does that mean? Was it sparking? Was th epump running (did yo ulisten for it) and so on.

he never said it wasn't priming, he asked if that was the problem!

The fuel pump relay was replaced by Ben when I bought the car from him.

I turned up to buy it - she cranked, she had a spark (take a lead out stick a screwdriver in it and see if the sparks on the block when you crank). If it does, I'd assume the fuel relay has failed again. Although I could be wrong and the immob cuts the spark too?

I'd replace the relay again as the first port of call (I'll have a look at the scappers today) and then go for the immob, the fiddly little bugger that it is.

tbh I have yet tpo come across a renault fuel pump relay failure.

Volvos go through them once a month and so on but never had a renautl problem.

If its going through them i would look at a wiring problem.

The immob if its th ekey in the glovebox effort only cuts the fuel pump but its so simple that it shouldn't cause a problem unless the wires are loose where it splices in.

Its the later plip activated alarm. Sometimes when i turn the key to start all power is cut to the car, thought this might be linked?

Im guessing its the immob as disconnecting the patter pos terminal and reconnecting it instantly solves the problem...

So no need for me to go scowering scrap yards for relays tomorrow? I'll try and get one anyway so we can rule that one out maybe.

An auto electrican should be able to tell you - I can't see how a mechanical immobliser would be reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery as its a physical break in the circut.

Does it crank?
Does it spark on the block?

You can brdge the fuel pump, i had to do this once to get home from work when my relay went can't remember what pins it is and can't look as i'm working , someone else could tell you. that way if it fires when bridged it's your relay.

Would the immob have somthing to do with all power being cut to the car on ignition? By this i mean everything, lights, indicators doors the lot. its done it once while driving too....not fun.

immob wont cut off power to lights, doors etc.

even if the immob wont unlock, you will still have power to the lights, windows, etc
if you are suffering with complete electrical failure, first place to start looking is the battery, is it secure, are the terminals tightened up etc.

Fuel pump and starter.

aye, came with the car, quite happy with that.

fuck knows whats on the hatch...there are 2 boxes under the gearstick housing...a receipt for an alarm/immob but god knows what is actually currently installed and working...

it has a thing on the column housing that i touch with a keyring to deactivate the immob...which works...

i guess ill just send em the receipt for the alarm/immob when it comes to insure it Very Happy ignorance is bliss
