The Laguna has finally decided to refuse to go into gear so Boooo. Just before this happened it was juddering like hell when you released the clutch so i'm guessing the pressure plate has fallen over and needs replacing. As it's the PK1 gearbox also uses a hydraulic clutch system so I can't check to see if the clutch is engaging correctly by measuring it travel distance. As above the car won't actually go into gear now when you depress the clutch pedal but the pedal also feels different, like it's effortless for the first bit of travel and then like it's pushing against something. Does my guess of new clutch sound about right to you lot or does it sound like it could be the slave cylinder?

Also, is it possible to change the G8T-760 clutch insitu by removing the drive shafts, supporting engine from above and unbolting the box?

pump the pedal quickly and see if it works then. If its just the same the clutch has gone pop. I it then works the slaves iffy.

As for the last bit I don't know

Cheers Chris I'll give it a go tonight. TBH with the way it was juddering I'm thinking it's the clutch/pressure plate but it's just strange that the pedal seems to be feeling funny aswell but i'll deffo check it out. Doyou know if the circlip which holds the release bearing in place on the PK1 need replacing at the same time?

Chris, I've just been out and checked it. She's been stood since Monday but struck up ok and suprisigly no rattles... Foot down on clutch and it felt as it does normally. Put it in first... It was a notchy, stiff change but she went in... when I lifted the pedal slightly you could feel the feedback from the clutch and she juddered up the road till my foot was fully off the pedal so it's possibly a roasted/deformed/fouled pressure plate. Still it's lasted well if it's the original item as it's on 118k now!

Ordered the genuine kit from Renault in Nottingham today. Should have been £146.38 inclussive of VAT but they've let me have it for £123 and some ppocket change which makes it ever so slightly more pricey than GSF except I don't have to drive 25miles to fetch it although they tried to tell me that paying them for 7.5hrs labour was the best way to get it sorted - Must have been Dutch day at Renault as they had to be smokin something Razz

Want some pics of the change?

yeah take some pics mick.

118k isn't much for a clutch tbh on a domestic car.

UPDATE:

Well fook that for a laugh. If anyone EVER asks me to change the clutch on a 2.2TDi Laguna again I'm gonna tell them where to shove it! Renault are cheeky porkers though... Purchased the genuine clutch KIT from them... THERE'S NO RELEASE BEARING!! Renault don't class it as part of the kit and it's an extra £23. Le tight arses or what?

Took me the best part of a day just to strip off the duct work, piping, A/C, HUbs etc and getting the 2 part drive shaft out caused a MAJOR sense of humor failure. I've got a few photo's to post later for those of you who haven't seen the belly of a G8T-760 and are thinking "What was he fookin about at". The camera kinda got left on the bench as I just wanted to get the job done. Found one oil leak in the form of a buggered oil seal on the gearbox so will be ordering that today. New clutch finally went in and was tested yesterday afternoon and by christ has the clutch pedal been transformed... it's smooth, light and more importantly the car goes in to gear!!!

TBH I'm not sure... I think it is a 12v but will no doubt be wrong. Seemed to spend all my time undoing 10mm bolts which were holding random pipes in place just to get to the bloody box. Haynes manual was about as much use as Dildo in a Toohtbrush factory and I just loved the photo showing one man simply pulling the 20Kg gearbox clear. Made me howl when I tried it with a strut in the way.

Is it worth changing the left hand driveshaft secondary bearing unit whilst it's out Chris?

if the bearing spins ok then i wouldn't both my arse, although they are reasonably cheap these days.

They can grumble but I have yet to see one drop off or something.

Yeah you caught me out... I was just thinking back to the bill for the head rebuild and I swear it had 12 valves.

Nothing grumbles on it Chris. In fact to say the car has done 120,000 it sits on the motorways at 80mph and loves it and the only things that piss me off with it was the really heavy clutch which has now been fixed and the climate control which I believe the auto-sense panel is playing up. I guess Renault don't build em like they used to as my Laguna II had more rattles than this one.
