This is about another Clio 16v I am conisdering buying. I haven't been to see it yet but the owner says that it needs a new gearbox. The problem is that it won't select 3rd or 5th gear but it will go into reverse, 1st,2nd and 4th fine. He says that it drives fine in the gears that it can select but you can't even get it into 3rd or 5th when the car is stationary.
Any ideas on the possible causes of this? He says a garage looked at it and it's definately the gearbox - but just want to find out if anything else such as the linkage being misaligned could be the problem?

box is fucked if it selects reverse ok its not an alignment issue |

Thanks big man, just a case of waiting to hear back from the guy now as someone else was going to see it tonight - as long as he doesn't buy it I'll go and have a gander later this week. |
