Hi.

Since My JB1 keeps a hell of a noise which is correlated to roadspeed I suspect one or both of the differential's bearings are busted.
How hard is it to replace them if I have the box on the table out of the car? Do I need special tools?

Chris? Someone else who has fiddled with gearboxes?

Haynes doesn't help too much on this but the exploded view of the differential seems quite simple (Section 7A page 9, the bearings are 69 and 42 that could be the culprits).

If it turns out that replacing the bearings is too much for me I'll just have to get another box. Sad

I've fiddled with them, its still apart Very Happy

Bearing kit thingy is probably more money than a decent second hand one so unless you want the satisfaction of doin it don't bother!

Thanks. A "new" box shall it be then. I'm really "anxious" to get into the job since it won't be a 2 hour job anyway. Sad
