gearbox/engine movment!!

hi all just come back fromwork and noticed that my gear stick moves about 1-2 inches when i plant my foot down then moves back when i let off the gas would this be engine mount or gear box mount loose/nackered????

Rear dougnut mount if its a 19 16v , 1.4 etc or rear dogbone mount if its a diesel/clio.

sorry its a 19 1.816v rear engine mount then is it easy to get to??

oooooo god just looked through search section for rear engine mount removal and i think ill let the garage do it as i have avery short temper and if it went "pete tong" id blow my car up lol

sod letting any garage near my car!

last time i let a garage near one of my cars was on my old white 19 16v hatch, got them to do the cam belt as i really could not be arsed with it, 1st time they fucked it up, got the cams out of timing so on idle on working temp the car would stall, after the 3rd time of the car going back and them just fiddling with the screw on the throttle body and me telling them that no that wont cure it, cos the ECU will compensate for it and u have the timing belt on wrong, i demanded my money back and did the job myself

well the garage i use would not do that to me as we been mates for about 6 yrs now and he is the only person i would let mot or work on my car if i could not do it my self

A bit of gearstick movement on these is common tho I thought? My gearstick still moves & I had my rear mount done about a month ago. Cuz when I first got the car I thought the movement was a bit much so I put it in the garage and they said it was fine, so I dunno.

I mean when my engine mount went properly, the downpipe was vibrating against the steering column under acceleration and making a horrrrible noise etc. If ur car doesn't actually feel wrong in any way it might be okay.

But, as usual, I will state my disclaimer that I know nothing and am probably wrong so don't listen to me! Laughing

my rear engine mount is fine, replaced it when i put the new engine into the blue hatch a couple of months ago (did all the engine mounts) and i get movement on my gear lever, u can physically see it move when u either boot it or let off the gas, only about 1/2 inch but there is defo movement

but the bloody thing is supposed to move is it not ?
thats why the mounts are made of rubber ,things would get nasty if they were solid metal

yea i would exspect a bit but not as much as im getting!!!!! cause when i change gear some times its very jolty a clunky??? even when my clutch is fuly to floor

yours must be deffo an engine mount mate,you can actually let the car idle open the bonnet and rev the throttle to see how much its playing and which mount it is Wink

cool will have a look tomora when i clean my throttle body and fit my air filter and new spark plugs to try and solve my cutting out little problem

revving the engine wont really show you much as there will be no load on it.

you can see fairly easily if the front ones are knackered though, but usually its the back one

you can see it if you rev it sharp enough up to 4-5k

1/2 inches isn't bad, if its clonking or jerking badly then a mounts gone.

You will never remove the movement from the lever.

well after looking it over today i think the gear box one is ok but the front one and rear one might need replacing as it moves more on the drivers side,,as the gear box end seems prety tight
