Hi Guys,

Can any one help me.

Fault = Won't idle. When it does, it is very eratic. When moving, put foot on clutch and it will die.

I have changed = Plugs, leads, dizzy cap. rotar arm, coil, fuel filter, water pump, cam belt and tensioner, changed oil recently, oil filter.

I have cleaned the carb very thouroghly, it's spotless.

I use optimax petrol, and run Redex through it every other month.

R19 1.4energy GTS

Drives OK when cruising on motorway etc, but when at low revs in 3rd and 4th will be a bit juttery.

It can't be the carb, i took it apart and cleaned it very very very thouroughly. It's spotless.

The mixture is correct. It was set up on a cryton gas analysis computer. Idle sounds good by ear (when it is being nice and idles ok for a bit)

Just spoken to a mate who had a 19 energy, he said that the ignition computer/vacum "thingy" could be on the way out. (I think he means the bit that the coil bolts onto.

Any ideas??

Cheers

yes the CARBS the problem.

Did you remove the idle jet?

Crypton tune? Can you still get those things, they went out with perms and capris.

if it was the ignition module then it wouldn't restart for a while and it would be more random when it did die.

But like I keep telling you the problems the carb so its been told to you over and over again so don't ask anymore as I have told you the problem about 10 times.

Yes, I removed the idle jet. Blasted it with carb cleaner. Then left it to soak in it over night.

I took the whole thing apart off of the engine, cleaned it all.

There must be a secret "adjust this to correct problem"

I can't see how it can be the carb.

What do you suggest, knowing what i have done??

what does an engine need to work? Air, fuel and spark.

Air, I doubt thats the problem, compression won't be the problem, spark is there or if it wasn't it wouldn't just cut out every clutch dip.

What does that leave? Fuel!

Righty when its warm and you stick the choke on say 1 click does it stop stalling?

Go for a hard drive (to clean any crap from them) then come back and let it idle for a while, say 10/15 mins, pull the plugs. See what they look like.

Also stop using optimax, waste of money. Stick normal unleaded in it, thats what it was designed to run on anyway so theres no timing or valve seat issues.

When its idlign by erratic does that means it goes up and down or it runs very low, then stalls or runs low then races away?

With it idling spray wd40/soapy water all over the carb, if the engine settles down then you have an air leak, sort it out.

I would still say fueling if the cars ok at other times though.
