Don't need a bodyshop, just the bonnet bumper lights and a dremel to cut away the metal from the slam pannel

raises hand - i bought this car . . .

the auction on ebay did not meet his reserve so after the auction i emailed him and offered £150 which he accepted on the basis that it would be treated as if when i got there and the car was a shitter that i did not have to buy it as we was dealing away from ebay.

So that weekend i took a drive to Reading to check it over.
1st impression on seeing it 'in the flesh' was hmmmmm.

on closer inspection however, checking weld points, bonnet alignment, lights etc it was a good job.
Apparently the conversion was done because it had been involved in an accident and with this info i got under it and checked the chassis etc as best i could.

it had its faults, the dash computer was flashing (i reset it after i had the V5 and reciept), the sunroof did not open ( the screw was off centre but i had another phase 1 in the garden, rotting but with a working sunroof), the front bumper indicators did not work althou wired up, and was just generally tatty, big 6 x 9 holes in the parcel shelf, ripped drivers seat etc.

So i took it on, paid the £150 and drove it home, the engine was in great condition, the gearbox tight and i got her up to 135mph on the M25.

In the following months i replaced the sunroof, sorted the electrics for the lighting, changed over the central locking, got a new parcel shelf, changed the plugs, timing belt, alt belt HT leads, rotor arm etc and the engine for 103,000 miles is really sweet.
I put it in for its MOT in oct 2004 and it failed on the rear brake pads and one indicator not flashing (bulb blew that morning), got the brake pads done and new bulb, retest and she passed Smile.

Since then its had the leather seats, white dial kit, changed the orange bumper indicators to clear ones, lowered it on koni's 30mm all round, new carpet, sorted the rust on the drivers side rear wheel arch and got another phase 2 16V bonnet for it as the one on it had some ripples in it.

It still has the stupid black chequer graphics on the back end but they will come off when i am satisfied enough with the body work to get it resprayed (in silver or williams blue, not decided yet)
The phase 2 front end on the phase 1 has grown on me, it seems sleeker and more refined in my opinion.
Since then its been running sweet as a nut until this week when it popped the diff circlip.
(this weekends work)
so for about £450 spent on it including the £150 spent buying the car, i think i've not done too bad.

when i got my ph 2 it was a dog to look at and drove like shit...but once i had swapped over the susspention, dials, side repeaters,wheels,seats.....and put a ph1 tailgate that i had debadged and resprayed,it drives better and looks better.
must admit it was a pain sorting the electrics out on the boot cause once i had swapped it over i realized i had no fog light, and that the loomwas compleatly differant,so for the time being i fitted an external jobby to get it through its mot.
as u all know, im putting the engine and box back in at the mo after doing the clutch and swappin the box and replacing the mounts........
when i got more time i'll get rid of the yukky sqare fog and cut in some l.e.d. jobbys........we'll see Cool
Pics will come with new camera
