Right getting started on this lot next monday. List of things to do is:

Change head over to chris's old straight port job.
Fit laguna t/b.
New plugs leads etc etc

I have a few questions about the above though.

Firstly, i will be working on a phase 3 clio. Normally to swap the t/b i remove the fuel pump fuse and turn it over to relieve the pressure. On the phase 3 the fuse is removed due to the fuel cut off switch in the engine bay. As far as i was aware this switch only re-enables the power to the pump not deactivates it. So how do i sort it?

Secondly, last head change i did ended up with a snapped head bolt. Caused lots of wasted time and problems. Are there any measures that can be used to prevent the bolts snapping when undoing them? or is it just a case of it will snap if its gonna snap and theres nothing you can do.

There is a coolant drain plug on the back of the block. is it realy necessary to drain the coolant out of here as well when swapping the head?

Lastly, cant find the torque for the rocker cover bolts in the haynes. Anyone know it for this engine?

Thanks

cheers Chris, when you say just take the TB off, surely this is dodgy without removing the fuel pressure otherwise petrol will piss everywhere when taking the lines off the TB?

What i meant by the headbolts snapping was when removing em not when doing them up. Obviously if you do em up too tight they will snap.

The last one i did, all 9 came out without a fuss but one decided to snap while i was undoing it.

pressure doesn't stay for that long. when you depressurise it petrol still pours out. leave it over night and there will be no pressure.

nothign you can do about that, some of them pass close to water and some waer seeps over and causes corrosion.

1fast6 is this the Energy engine that you're using a 1.6e BE and 1.4e straight port head? Or is it all gonna be a 1.4e jobbie?

Nah not a 1.6 bottom end couldnt be arsed with that and i dont have a winch or an engine stand.

Just putting chris's old head on as a replacement for the banana port job thats on there at the moment. Plus using a worked on inlet and the laguna TB so hopefully should bring it up to 85 bhp.

Will be interesting to see what its like to drive afterwards.

Ah right.

Sounds cool.

Let us know how it goes.

Love the Energy engine. Even though I know feck all about engines it just kept on going strong, never lets you down and has a fair bit of tunning potential Razz
