Heated Seats

I've got a 1994 M reg 5dr Exec and was wondering how easy or stupidly difficult it would be to get heated seats in it? I'm assuming that first of all I would have to actaully get seats with the heating element thingies in them?? Then wire in switches for 'em......etc? Am I even close? Anyone tried this before and been succesful?

those heated seats are quite rare i think , there was a set on ebay a couple months back.
the plugs should be under the ashtray assembly as its been mentioned by someone on here before

on mine the wiring appears to be there already under the seats although elements are probably not - they may be but there are no switches.

I imagaine it would be fairly simple to fit elements from another car, most saabs and volvos have them, I know on the older volvos it's just a mat type ting that goes under the seat covers so is really simple to take out it's just a case of matching the wiring.

There where a set of leather R25 seats on ebay last week, i think they where going for Â£10, they where heated, dont know how easy it would be to strip them though.

r25 seats fit stright in to a 19?

i have heated seats in my 1.4e

its quite a big thing here in finland.

The switches are indeed in the centre consol below the ash tray.

They are good...feel like u pissed urself at first but nicer because it doesnt go all clammy and cold afterwards. Not that i piss myself that often.

I have only started thinking of heated seats cuz my heater matrix is fucked lol. Need some sorta heat in the damn car. I have been given an identical quote of Â£409 from 2 different garages for replacing my heater matrix Shocked

can u believe that? And the actual matrix part is only Â£38.......all the rest of that is labour!! Buuuuuugger me. Will have to do something about it soon though. It's like driving around in an ice-cube. An ice cube where u can't see out of the frikkin windscreen cuz it's always steamed up lol. Ggrrrrrrr

So if I eat a nice big curry, stick a spark plug under me seat, and then piss meself..........I can forget sorting my heater matrix out!

my saab had heated seats, I loved that car.

Anyway the wirings not there, you need to put the loom in etc. The wires under the seats are for the pretensioners

But yes you can just get an element and stick it in themn wire it.

On my saab the heat was variable! Now thats classy!

the pretensioners must have been optional do u think....my chammy has them, the hatch doesnt and also the set of p2 seats i got doesnt have them.

pre tensioners are factory fitted after 94/95, by lawe 96 car sall have to have them along with an electronic engine immobilsier and blah blah

no ph1 has pre tensioners, early ph2's don't but later ones all do.

If its heat yer after, you could try one of those ceramic heater thingys that are always on sale on ebay. Apparently they just plug into the ciggy lighter and then blast you with 150W or whatever of heat - plenty for anyone! Just search for "car heater" or summink similar on ebay and check em out - for Â£20 odd, it a damn sight cheaper than having a new matrix fitted and a lot easier than retrofitting heated seats Smile

That is of course, assuming that that aren't total shite Very Happy

Cheers for ur suggestion alex, but that's the first thing I did........I got a 180w ceramic heater that plugs in the ciggie lighter.......and......quite frankly........I could SHIT more heat lol. My breath is hotter than it. It's pathetic.........and the most powerful one available is 200w, so I was expecting the 180w to be pretty good.........but it's bollocks really. Bout as much use as a waterproof teabag. doh

. I'm sure its not that hard to make a heater that actually works and runs off a ciggy lighter!
