its such a joy knowing shit about cars , every little new thing you discover makes you get excited .

found my heater fan today and i want to give it a good clean if that makes any sense . anyway i want to get it out and i need some help here.
apparently ,there are 2 visible bolts on each side and a plug to disconnect .is the fan going to slide to the side and come out after taking the bolts out ?

only 2 bolts, you can see one of them in that picture. Other one is the same place on the other side. Then theres a wiring plug on the other side too. You can then pull it out from the passenger side. Requires a bit of chinese-puzzle style jiggling about to get it back into position through that scuttle hole!

I do hope you're not inferring that you intend to pressure wash the matrix with it in situ Confused Shocked

I've just given this a try and there were quite alot of leaves and dirt sitting on the matrix. Gave it a good hoover out and cleaned up the fan. Matrix still only gets luke warm. Aad my hand on it while engine was on. 15 minutes later and it had got no warmer. Could it still be a air lock problem? All the other pipes are roasting!

Least my fan is clean as a whistle Laughing

air lock seems likely, if you haven't flushed it though then thats a good idea as well.

Just checking that it's still a possibility as I gotta get my Dad to help for the day if it needs flushing. Don't fancy doing it by myself...... Sad

Plus my Mum & Dad's house is the only one with a hose and they live a little way away!

Schakal....
You seem to have the same poblem as me buddy. My heater seems warm when the fan is off and I'm driving about 30mph. But turn the fan on above 1 and it gets colder and colder till it's only luke warm and I have to put a jumper on Confused

Was hoping when I moved the fan housing I would find somthing that was causing the.problem (you know....an easy way out of the prob....SOME LUCK!), but to no avail. So looks like I'm gonna have to flush the whole sytem forwards and in reverse to get the crud and rust and whatever else has managed to gunk it up. Or maybe I'll ask the garage to do it when my 19 goes for a service next week ( Idea ). My god I'm lazy.

just take off the 2 hoses that go to the matrix in the engine bay connect your garden hose to them and give them a blast. One is bigger than the other though so you might have to hold it on.

I'm guessing that will then drain all the coolant over the floor from the disconnected pipes. Will that not run a risk of causing an air lock when they are connected up again?
