does the car actually get up to temp?

Is the heater freezing or is there a wee bit of warm air?

The temp gauge should run up around the 1st line which is about the 10 o'clock position on the dial. If it stays at the bottom then chances are the thermostats seized open or missing.

If theres a little warm air then chances are the matrix has an air lock. It may be clogged a flush should help that.

The matrix's do collect a lot of air so you don't get much hot air if any. My 16V was the same but finally its working properly. My progress report details the sorry saga.

air lock it is my man. With the engine running and the heater on squeeze the hoses to the heater matrix, they are the only 2 hoses going towards the cars passenger compartment. Squeeze them and feel the air fromt he vents, if its warm then you need to keep squeezing and so on to get the air purged out.
