Hello.....!!!! Not been on here for AGES, think i got boo'd away last time for owning a clio lol!

Anyway as some of you know iv had this idleing problem for a while now! This is the exact description of the problem and what I have already tried. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as its doing my scone in a bit now!!!

Initially I used to get this problem once every so often, it would prob only last a few hours then be fine again! normally the car starts and runs absolutely mint, even from stone cold!!

Then I fitted a supersprint manifold and it was fine for the rest of that particular day. But the following morning is where the problem became constant and its been here since then!

If the engine is stone cold, ill start it, but instead of revving itself up to say 2krpm, then idleing at 1100rpm, it hardly revs above 1krpm, then revs drop and it cuts out straight away. it will idle on the 4thish start if I dont touch the throttle and only start it with the key!

But what im doing is starting it then holding the revs at 3krpm for say 10 seconds. It does sound rougher than normal, but after the 10 secs it smooths out nicely. If i take my foot off the throttle it will stall, but if i drop the revs slowly it will idle as normal from cold at about 1100rpm. usually it will struggle a bit, sometimes down to the verge of stalling, the pick up straight away to its 1100rpm idle! (if its stone cold)

If I drive it, or rev it, it will cut out as soon as the revs drop!

but....if i let it idle for 1 minute, then it will rev, and drive 100% perfect for the rest of the journey untill the igition is switched off and back on again. Even if its at full temp! if i turn it off, and back on it will idle ok at 900rpm (as its warm it doesnt initially cut out), but it will cut out if i rev it, or when i put the clutch in and let the revs drop unless i leave it idling for that magic minute!

it seems that when it is in 'im gonna cut out mode' the revs just drop straight down, but when its running ok they drop slowly then idle ok.

Iv tried the following:

reset ECU
cleaned/lubricated ISCV
changed coolant temp sensor
changed map sensor
made sure speed cable/road speed sensor is earthed good
changed lambda
unplugged cold start injector plug

any other ideas? next on the list is another ISCV i think, timing sensor and maybe ignition coil.

Would you think that fitting this supersprint manifold would effect anything?

It jus seems strange how after that 1 minute of idling the car drives spot on!!!

Thanks
JB

What CTS did you get? There are 3 different types. What lambda did you get?

CTS was white top same as that came off it. lambda was just a normal one for clio!

both didnt make the slightest bit of difference before and after Sad

i had a similar prob on my old 16v, but not quite the same as this! this only happens if i dont let the car idle for that special 1 minute before driving it! the old one did it all the time regardless!

memory problem within the SMT?

1 minute would be long enough to stabilise the idle.

will do, ill have a proper look at it tonight! was never in a baloon. it was in a crappy bag at first, but iv put it in a proper sealed bag now with some wd-40 to soak up the moisture. the actual device is sealed and water proof, just the connections on the plug that arent lol! pointless!

omex 500 should do the job right i reckon!

its just annoying in a morning when im running late for work, or if i need to go out sharpish as im sure u can imagine! grrr!

cheers chris!

SMT is piggy back management Huw.

Drain the bag of wd-40, it won't help. Stick it in and squeeze as much air as you can out. Then seal it.

Check the casings voltage. It should be 0 or very low. if your getting 1volt or something then thats way to high. Woudl also cause running faults.

if you can do a load test on the earth leads for the SMT/ECU.
