Just been out to the car and it wouldnt fire up took 5 mins off turning it on and off away to get it started, then grey smoke came out of the exhaust for a good 2 mins then, FINE??? I havent taken it for a drive incase theres s omething wrong.

The oil hasnt emulsified however, the water had gone down in the header tank but i guess thats cause i only filled it up yesterday after it blew most of it out.

CAN ANYONE HELP

I really needed to get down to Leeds tomorrow. from the 2 posts i have posted can anyone tell me wether its serious or not.

Are you using genuine diesel?

The diesel lubricates the pump, which parts, I don't know. From reading the other post dodgy diesel may be the cause of some things sticking, which leads to damaging the actual pump, to some extent...

Try some red if you're not sure and see if it makes any difference.

Hope this helps.

You say it took 5 mins of turning it on and off to get it to start, was the engine turning over?

Yes. The first three mins it just turned over with thick smoke piping out. The last two mins it was trying to start and then all of a sudden with the ignition on it fired up blew yet more smoke out of the exaust for a few seconds then it was completely normal.

wiring probs I'd say, the glow plugs sound like they ain't working right. They may be duff but a dodgy wiring prob would also coincide with the stop solenoid not activating.

Take it a drive and see what happens.

Ive had probs with the positive batter connector. On 19's its not a hoop fitting but a threaded top. Sometimes the car will fire up sometimes when you turn it on it dies, ni power, get out and untighten the positive and retighten and it works!!!

You dont think all this is because of this battery connection do you??

Ill get some new glow plugs and a stop soleniod tomorrow, i have a spare preheater pack that i could use if the otherones fried.

Let me know what you think

get down to halfords and but a positive battery connector. The ren screw downs are crap so bin em.

The decent terminals about 3 quid. take the nut off then put the existing wires on the bolt then stick the nut back on, problem sorted.

Thats 1 of the 1st mods I do on any brenault, along with decent earths.

Get the bits and fit em and see what happens.

if I remember right a glow plugs trapped behind a fuel pipe on the ren disesls, undo the pipe and move it off the injector, saves a lot of hassle.
