Right, theres gotta be some people in the know here!

My 19 16 valver died on monday, just coming up to a ruondabout and the engine died. No bangs or clatters, just died.

I'm fairly sure its not the immobiliser as the fuel pump still primes the fuel circuit. I am of the understanding that the immobiliser just cuts the fuel pump off and doesnt touch anything else.

I've taken off the fuel rail and fuel goes everywhere when i prime it.

I've replaced the dizzy cap and coil.

There is 12v going into the coil when i prime the ignition, i havent checked what it does when i turn it over (in my stupidty).

Fuel is being pumped to the rail, but not getting past the injectors, and when i turn it over, i cant get it to spark.

Am i right in thinking that as theres no fuel going in its not going to be an ignition module? and the fault lies witgh the ECU.

Several people have suggested the crankshaft sensor. I'm fairly au fait technically, and i have a haynes manual, but it doesnt actually show you where the crankshaft sensor is!

The other thing i'm concerned about is that the cambelt could have slipped a few teeth, and thereby putting the crank out of synch with the camshafts? But i didnt hear any bangs or rattles and she turns over as sweet as she always has, so i'm hoping (praying) that its not done that. Its belt is about 15k before its due to be changed.

This is driving me mad, i've been hunting over the car for three days and i'm beginning to lose my patience!

If anyone has any ideas it'd be appreciated!

it means that the solar flux capacitor time flux doohicky is broken which will cause a rip in the space time ciontinuim allowing ogres that look like Jo Brand to come and take over the world.

or it may mean the crank sensor is up the spout or the coil is.

Crank sensor is on top of the bellhousing, under the dizzy, held in by 2 11mm bolts.

if the needle doesn't move then crank trigger is 1st port of call. If the needle does move pull out the coil to cap HT lead stick an old spark plug or screwdriver in the lead and rest it on the camcover and get someone to crank it over, you should get a succesion of blue sparks as its cranking.

if its sparking but no fire or no fuel getting through have a look at the injector multiplug on the cambelt side of the inlet manifold.

I've replaced the coil and dizzy already, sooooooooo crank sensor is certainly next port of call.

I've had no sparking from any plugs at all. Despite there being 12v to the coil on prime.

I will check it tonight.

How were the oil levels?

Mine did exactly the same thing a few years ago.

a garage who said they had fixed an oil leak hadn't, to put it simply the engine siezed.

New engine time for me weeeee, although have had no trouble with it whatsoever for the past 3 years, apart from it still has a bastid oil leak!!

And you do know how woefully inaccurate they are?

is that aimed at me JB cos I check it every day and top up the coolant that leaks out of the matrix and put back in the 15PSI every tyre loses each day.

Bloody thing.

Er the problem was the garage didn't fix it they made it worse, so a lovely full fill of oil went to an empty one on a trip or two.

course I check the dip stick regularly, only a fool (or mg owner) doesn't do that Smile
