 Hex caliper bolts

Right, got ready strip and rebuild the brakes on the Astra today and found the last arsehole that had been in at them has knackered the hex bolts holding the caliper on. I've ordered four new bolts from Vauxhall. Has anyone found an easy way to get the bolts out baring in mind it doesn't matter if i wreck the current ones as long as the caliper thread remains intact.

Pretty bad. i've got the right perfect 1/4 sized key and its just turning. I've tried the slightly larger size but it's also turning. i'm not wanting to go much further as i don't want to make it impossible

Does the right size one go in and catch a wee bit? Is it going right in or halfway?

If halfway its hammer time.

Not cracked. goes in all the way and catches very slighty on turning but then loses grip after about 3 mm of turning

stick it in hammer it then tighten it. I assume your using a socket?

Yeh, tried with socket and hex key, I'm going to vauxhall just now to pick up the bolts. Will try again when i get back.

I would say come through today but you will never get here due to the G8 crap.

It's cool, went to Vauxhall. The guy at parts advised he had never heard of such part. So i got a bit angry when he then said he couldn't find it on his PC.
I had exactly the same version of TIS on my laptop as he had on his PC. He wouldn't let me search for it on his PC. So i went back to the car and brought in my laptop and showed him the diagram, the part number and the level of his stupidity. He then became all humble.

They didn't have any in stock so i've ordered them for Friday. Will do the job on saturday instead.

Should be ok chris. i'll have another bash, should come off easily enough with a bit of force.

Don't want to try removing the guide hex bolts in case i knacker them even further. They will then be no use to put back in and will have to wait till friday anyway. cleaned up what i could of the outside pad and left it like that until i can take the caliper and disc off.

I also made use of Halfors spray can copper grease as i could not find the tub of it. Putting it on by hand is more accurate, spraying is more fun though Laughing
