 Hot start probs Ph2 R19 16v

OK I have seen a couple of posts saying that when they run their 19s then stop the thing wont start, I thought I had the same problem so I flushed the system , removed the immobiliser & changed the CTS so . . .
picture the scene me & the mrs , nice country drive , stop , walk & then no bloody start .
come back to it 90mins later & it starts & goes like warp speed again


please , any ideas ?

BB do a more powerful starter moter designed for hot starting, could try a new battery too some thing a bit more heavy duty with a larger cranking ampage

thats really just curing the symptoms and no the problem...im not 100% sure, but i would chk the wiring is sound first, esp the earth straps, and sometimes adding an extra beefy earth dirst engine to battery terminal helps.

is the heatshielding for the starter in place?

fortunately ive yet to suffer this problem.

heatshield or wiring problem.

A more powerfull start in no way whatsoever will help this problem.

What happens is the heat builds up and siezs the solenoid or makes the starter swell and seize in its casing.

Or the wires as they get hot just provide to much resistance.

We are also assumign its a 16V or a 1.8/1.7 and not a 1.4 energy which won't suffer from this.

yeah sorry ,
it is a 1.8 r19 16v ph2
the car starts & runs fine but stop for a few mins & it will turn over just fine but refuses to fire, we placed a screwdriver in the ht cap & rested across the engine but it produced no spark .
?

Sounds like it could be the flywheel position sensor.

Check is the rev counter jumping when you are turning it over.

oh right, you never said it turned over just that it won't start.

But indeed CAS sounds suspect, next time it happens check for the rev needle jumping and if it doesn't spray carb cleaner or similar on it to cool it down see if it starts then.

ok Chris H after yet another fail to start ( getting used to adding an extra hour to journeys now Laughing ) I noticed the usual oil needle doing its dance & then when trying to start all needles hit rock bottom, also no the rev counter doesn't move when turning engine(should it ?) but all dials & readouts seem to work when its running.

on another point up in the roof control panel by the leccy roof it looks like there is an infra red receiver set inside the panel any ideas what it's for ?

I picked the car up for a steal & now am beginning to understand why Smile
but its a little rocket & I shouldnt complain for the fun it gives

no , unfortunately it only has a pure metal key (no transmitter) & on top of that it had a cobra alarm with no transponder key but we had that removed professionally so that aint part of the prob

CAS is the crank angle sensor on top of the bellhousing.

I'm starting to think that £20 for a haynes manual was a waste of money , the damn thing has no mention of coolant temp. sensor , crank angle sensor or anything . guess I will have to do this the old fashioned way

OK its fixed (wahay : whoop whoop)
I replaced the coil & it still didn't work so I started looking elsewhere under the bonnet . after a while one of my mates wouldn't believe I changed the coil so went & grabbed one from the scrappy's , damn me if it didn't work. fired up first time & has been rocketing along perfectly since.

one very irate visit to a local motor factor later I have a refund for the dodgy coil a grovelling apology & now trade discount (bonus)

gotta say many thanks Richard : Jonnyboy : Chris H & stephen for the help , Its good to be back on the road .
