no mot though.

Neal in your honest opinion do you prefer the hatch or the chamade?

I knwo what you mean about space as well!

Shame we are not all within 100 miles or something. Otherwise we could have all chipped in and rented a unit/barn thing.

I dont know!

dont even know which i prefer out of phase 1 or 2!

Phase 1s are more brutal looking and retro, but the phase 2 was the shape i was first drawn to...

I think when chet has the phase 2 hatch off me ill be on the lookout for a decent phase 1 hatch Rolling Eyes

the ph1/2 thing is completely different. They are wqorlds apart and not just talking about looks I am talking about ride etc.

A ph1 hatch is the best for handling in my opinion.

Out of interest, in what way is a phase 1 different to an equivalent phase 2 which will affect the ride/handling, other than the marginal weight difference?

Carrying on from the above, if there any noticeable performance difference between phase 1 and 2?

Neal tbh I am not entirely sure.

The extra weight I think means the springs etc are over loaded so by this they have a much softer ride. On the ph1 its solid, annoyingly so on todays speed bump addled roads.

Also the marginal weight difference isn't that marginal, its quite a bit.

When you step from a ph2 to a ph1 you notice the difference in drive in both handling and acceleration.

In most situations the ph1 is a couple of car lengths in front in regards to speed etc.

I don't know which i prefer either Rolling Eyes

I was always a diehard chammy fan and now here i am gettin a hatch

I do love a ph1 in the right colour tho, a ph2 is as nice in any colour. Red looks terrible on a ph1 for example but not so bad on a ph2

thb if space allowed i'd have one of each...

Also think i agree with Chris about the differences, not so much with speed (valvers performance seem to vary an awful lot) but the ph1 feels much more harsh but not in a bad way.

the chamade to me feels like a 15 min bodge job.

The done the hatch, sorted it out, handles great etc.

They saw that astra brought out the belmont and the escort had the orion, we'll have a bit of that says renault.

They stuck a boot on and dodn't really develop it properly. Thats how it feels to me anyway!

Its good, but not as good as the hatch.

The hatches rear end to me feels better, it jumps better, it doesn't skip so much etc.

the torsion bars and dampers are the same wethere hatch or chamade and the chammy has a bigger heavier bum.

Handling wise theres definately a difference, you can feel the chammy arse trying to swing round

Strangely enough the megane saloon is the better handler out of thr rest Confused

I'd go along with that. comparing the rear light clusters to on my hatch to my chamade, the hatch looks like they were designed to be there, plastic covers, thumbscrews etc. The chamade ones just have nuts holding them in and no covers of any sort.

and that funny kink in the top of the rear lights...where it follows what looks like a mis-aligned boot...whats that all about?

i agree over the handling and power diffrences between the ph1 and ph2 valvers

i've owned 3 ph1 valvers and 1 ph2 valver.

the Ph1's defo handle better and are quciker, my ph1 (when it was running) could easily beat my ph2 in pull away, mid range and top end, it also feels more solid and gives me more confidence to chuck it around the twisty bits at a higher speed than i wanna do in my ph2.

but i do prefer the look of the ph2 over the ph1 except the side skirts (hence why the ph2 is getting ph1 skirts put on very shortly when they have been resprayed and why my ph1 has the ph2 bonnet, grill and lights on it but retains the ph1 bumpers and skirts)

I've only had one ph1 and that was a 16v Hatch. The other two have been ph2's. I've always liked the ph1 and ph2 hatches equally but i much prefer the ph1 chamade to the ph2. I think the ph2 chamade has a really soft rear whereas the ph1 is a lot more agressive and suits the car much more. The next 19 i purchase will either be a ph1 hatch or chamade.
