Ok i got myself a question and i don't have any idea anymore on what it can be.

The engine runs fine what it runs great the only problem is it will idle at aprox 1200-1500rpm after you got the revs over 4500rpm even when driving a hundred miles but staying under 4500rpm the idle is perfect 950ish so it's not a heat related issue.

To solve it i tried:

Cleaning and exchanging the ICV
Changing the Throttle body for the other cars on which it always worked perfect so the the TPS should be ok
I changed the speedo cable to because the old one was pretty much f*cked

Past weeks she also had:

New sparkplugs
HT leads
Dizzy and Rotor
Coolantflush and new coolant

She didn't have the problem when bought her 2 months ago but she ran that crappy back then i probably wouldn't have noticed it if she did ran like that. Cus the TPS was fucked, one ht lead was literally broken, sparkplugs were in the for a decade and the coolant was dark brown shit colored water so it didn't have heating in the car back then.

Any ideas?

Road speed sensor.

100%

The thing on the speedo cable.

Its white and you find it behind the dash.

You can try to un-clip the cover and push the black sensor closer to the cable.

If the ECU gets a bad reading from the thing it switches to a very basic get you home mode (1500 RPM idle).

yep like the silver fox ( Razz ) says, the road speed sensor is the most likely cause, might just need re-earthing or cliped back together.

bugger that probably means i got a wiring problem somewhere Sad or is there something like a fuse for that (prolly not) Because i put on a shiny new one which has been used for 2 months on my other 19 and worked perfectly! What are the less likely things that could cause this?

Is there a way to get some readings from the rss? To know if it's doing it's job? Í'll try to get it open and have a look but it's shiny, new and worked before...

If you have changed a bulb or something behind the dash its enough to have bent it inside.

Also check the ground but this is more of an problem on the Clio as it passes through the back of the radio.

Cheers mate, the thing is when you keep it under 5k rpm the idle stays perfect but pull it through to 6k of more once and it revs to high on idle. But i will have a better check next week in the garage to much snow and cold outside now!
