 Idle speed

Hi all,

My 1.8 16v idles fine for the first 3 seconds on start up, then runs constant at 2.5k!! Any ideas to what this is??

Also, any hints and tips to more power gains!! :lol:

tap the idle control valve with a screwdriver and see if the speed changes

side of the head beside the distributor. Its mounted on the stat housing (where the top rad hose goes to)

its the round thing with the grey plug on top of it.

Tap it with the screwdriver if the revs drop then the ICV is buggered and you need anothe rone.

Also some brain surgeon might have arsed about with the throttle body and adjusted it.

Make sure its not got any air leaks or droken small bore hoses to the inlet manifold.

well i tapped the ICV and nothing changed. I changed it as well, and still the same problem!!

Screw on the throttle body is in as far as it will go!!

It idels fine, but as soon as your rev it up it then holds its idle at 2.5k??

n e ideas??

just sounds like a sticking ICV or a wiring problem causing it to stay high.

Do you drive the car before it goes into the hi idle or is it parked.

usually when i've driven it. I can have it parked and just rev it up to 4k and it'll then idel at 2.5k.
