Hi Guys,

I have just found out that i need to adjust my mixture on my carb. I have altered the idle to make it a bit lower (after getting my new clocks)

Do i need to richen (anti-clockwise) or make leaner (clockwise) it.

How much do i turn the screw, very slighty or quite a bit??

Any info is welcomed.

Cheers
Ben

turn the mixture until it runs the smoothest.

Also you tighten it to make it leaner and loosen to enrich it. But I suppose looking from the front of the car that would be right.

As for the amount of turns, who knows, some do drastic things with a 1/4 turn other will screw right in etc.

I would recommend you strip the carb and thoroughly clean it before doing anything to it, it will not have been stripped before. If you do it carefully you can strip them and re-use the gaskets.

The best way is to first strip and clean the carb like chris has said.

With everything again in place (including the air box and air filter)
Get the engine up to working temperature.
Get the idle up to 900rpm or 1000rpm stable screwing or unscrewing the idle screw. If needed, give it some padle to the throttle and see to what rpm the idle gets into. Re-adjust the idle if necessary.

Now comes the tricky part.
Watching the rpm gauge, screw (lean) the mix slowly until the rpm starts to drop. Let it idle a few secs. Slowly unscrew (to get it richer) the mix until the point the rpm will stop going up and eventually will start to drop also.
Usually I do two to three checkings before saying its tuned. Once you have found that point that screw and rpm goes down and unscrew and rpm also will go down, paddle a little the throttle and check the mix again.

btw, if the fan comes in stop adjusting the mix and wait till it stops.

With experience you can tune by ear and forget the rpm gauge.

yeap, I take some time to fine tune carbs. Smile

rev it hard a few times whilst doing it to clear out the manifold etc, with it idling for a while it gets quite rich in there.
