 Ignitiion timing (F7P)

Hi all,

Does any one know what sort of ignition timing (at the various different RPM/vacum) the ECU provides on the F7P?

This information would be a great help to me.

eh?

It'll be anywhere from near zero at cranking to 40 on low load cruising.

Hiya

I'm looking at using Megasquirt to run my ignition as well as the fuel it currently uses and rather than starting with a blank ignition map, I wondered if someone had the data so I could base it on this?

its a tricky one. Ask on their forum for a similar engine 1.8/2l 16V engines base map and work from that, i find that usually does the trick.

There are quite a few 2.0 zetec maps floating about... that would make a fairly decent base id have thought...

If you can get on a rolling road (assuming you can or mapping is going to be a right bastard right off) then you can manually map your std ECU's ignition curve.

Stick a multimeter on your TPS and one on your map sensor and you'll need a digital strobe light. Go up in 10% throttle increments and 500rpm increments (noting map value at the time), adjust the strobe so that the TDC marker on the flywheel lines up with the 'zero' on the bell housing, and the number on the strobe is the ignition advance for that point in the map. DO this all the way through the rev and TPS range. You will need a dyno which can hold load. And after you can scale the MAP readings you have against the wot (I mean what really) MAP reading and the ovverun map values.

Of if your clever you'll get one of those fastchip gizmos which will allow you to read the std engines operating permaters including TPS, RPM, MAP and ignition advance.

Thanks for your replies guys. Is a 1.8 ford zetec engine like the renault design then? I've not really looked in to zetec design before!

Fastchip idea sounds good, although I do not fancy buying one just to get at the maps! Does any one on here (Chet?) have a fastchip that is willing to share the info goodness with me? Very Happy

you will be able to start the engine on pretty much any map so long as it isnt stupidy rich/lean. even then u can easily tweak it to get it running. i started/ran and drove my T.B F7R on a base map for a 1.8 zetec on bodies...wasnt perfect, but ive mapped it on the road so that the fuelling is OK, and ignition is safe. it drives nice and smooth....just waiting to get it on the rollers now. LOL even averaged 30mpg on a 200 mile trip last week!
