Well kinda car related...

I want to make a spark plug produce a continuous or pulsed spark. nothing to do with being in an engine...

i.e. what bit of the car do I use and how do I use it to make the spark plug just make a spark? Coil of some sort connected to a 12v battery? Not good with electrics...

Cheers

is there even such a thing as a continuous spark? normally a spark is caused by something discharging, therefore a continuous one would be hard.. i guess you could try creating an electric arc, but that would melt away electrodes and shit pretty quick..

creating something like in a car can be done, though.. you need an (im)pulse train generator to drive the relay that drives the coil...

Yep the reason the 12V is converted to 25000V between battery and spark plug is because there is effectively almost no current flowing. This voltage would be hard to maintain all the time, that's why it's released only in very short bursts.

It comes down to:
(low voltage x high current at the battery) = (high voltage x low current at the plug)

Very Happy

Build yourself a jacobs ladder, one high voltage continuous spark and handy anti-theft device in one!
