Today i Have been mostly rebuilding the head.....

Went to halfords this morning for the valve grinding stuff. £2.99 sorted.
Spent an hour and half scraping away what remained of the old head gasket. Then checked to see if the head was warped. Thankfully it appears to be just about perfectly flat so no need to get it skimmed...

Hear it is with all the valves out
Image

Hear is a nice new valve ready to be ground in....

And here is the grinding tool i got from halfords...

Here are he old inlet valves. The centre 2 are bent ones

All 8 valves installed. Nice and shiney......

Head just about complete... Havent bolted the rockers back in yet gonna do that after i get the head installed back into the car...

Its a runner. Got rained off on tuesday so spent most of wednesday replacing the water pump and putting everything back together. Came across 2 problems. Earth strap to the bulkhead was a tad loose when i put it back on. Thats caused a lot of problems so tightened it back up. Now battery was a tad flat so got a jump start too. Wouldn't start though. Found the culprit though. Fuel lines were on the wrong way round. Bit daft and the haynes manual isnt very clear about this and even shows a picture saying the return line when it is actually the feed line. Anyway swapped them round today and it started first time. Woo Hoo. Sounds a bit noisey so will have to redo the valve gaps again and im sure the exaust gasket is leaking. Will get that sorted soon. Done about 20 miles in it today. To be honest im just trying to get confident with it. Bit strange knowing i put it all back together.

Its quite noisy under load. The eaxust gasket didnt have anything aginst the metal bit so it gone back metal to metal. Its nothing like the one that came off. Gonna get another exaust gasket the same as theone thatcame off and see if it makes a difference.

well get a new gasket on and see what happens.

If you set the clearences of the rockers when it was on the bench they should be ok on the engine.

It just didnt make sense the way i first put them back on. I was going by what was said in the haynes manual.

gettign the lines mixed up is quite common. Normally though the lines have a green/red band on them green out red return, these tend to fall off right enough. Different size pipes are also used in some cases.
