mostly happens when parking, ie. slow or no speed and turning the wheel.. since it's a single "knack" it's not a drive shaft issue i reckon!? i'm leaning towards strut bearing or ARB bush(es).. any ideas? if its the bush(es), what sort of grease should i try lubing them up with (that won't attack the rubber) ?

just rechecked.. not a crack in sight.. think its the strut top bearing, since you can trigger it by turning the wheel back and forth between full locks with the car not moving..

I'll bet it's the bearings that are siezed. Out of interest where are the strut top mounts and how do they crack?

where the struts bolt to the car, your inferior clio doesn't have them.

they crack by breaking - lol

tips for what? you need to get the strut out and strip it down and stick a new bearing on.

could alos be a balljoint away but more likely to be the bearing

hard to hear where the knack is coming from, exactly, but is very audible sometimes.. appears to occur only when turning the wheels to the left (of center pos).. its not always at the same wheel angle it happens, but is very easy to reproduce.. should i worry about it being something with the PAS rack? it does it with the engine off as well (hydraulic PAS pump)..
