Question Question Twisted Evil Question Question

Can anyone tell me what may be destroying my CV joints. I've gone through 2 in the last week, (1 on both sides) could this be because of the 17's or beceuse its lowered?? or am i just an unlucky git.

I've also got a strainge whiring sound when turning right, i thourght it could have been a wheel bearing but having changed both of them i find its still there, although not quite as bad.

Any Ideas people???

are you using renault shafts?

I hada problem with my old 1.4 19's I was popping shafts every 10 miles until they refused to give me any more got a refund went to renault new shaft and no probs since. And sincer then the shaft has gone on to the megane.

The wheels aren't a problem but the lowering strains the CV joint as if the wishbones level when lowered the wheels as far away from the box as it can be, it swing in an arc remember, thus the extra negative camber when lowered.

Also have a lok at the inner drivers side joint the whirring may be the inner trying to pop out.

I'm using the aftermarket equivalent, not original renault parts.
However I've had 3 R19 16v's before and never had a problem with using them.
I've just got a new shaft for the drivers side, so i'll wang that on and see if that makes any differance. It proberbly will, but i'll have to see if it last's or if it pop's again.

are you sure its the right shaft? The 16V is the only 19 with the longer driveshafts, not much in it but about 10/20mm, enough to cause problems if you have the shorter ones.

My source informs me that the Turbo diesel shaft is the same??
And he sells the parts.

Could this be my problem????

well, I've now fitted the new shaft. (only took a month) must be payday.

19's going like a dream. but then again I've only had her a month and driven her all of 30 miles. so I'm bound to break something soon.

£50 from the factors and £95 from Renault????

don't know what the differance is but I took Chris H's advice seeing as the £50 one's kept breaking.

This one is fine though, no problems at all, and that makes it a bit easier to swallow.

was a thicker shaft aswell, and the old one had a rubber mount on it which the renault part dosen't. (Differant??, mabe)

the only reason they will not accept and exhange shaft is if the shaft is bent, snapped or the CV joint outer has broken up.

I exchange sghafts all the time, ones that won't get exchanged I smoother in grease so they can't see.
