my 16v chamade seems to be lacking power a wee bit... i changed the plugs but that is as far as i've got... any ideas of things to try... what about injector cleaner /redex.. is so whats about the best to use...

could it be a lack of fuel ie the fuel pump of perhaps an over used fuel filter that has seen better days...

i really am quite stuck as my last one seemed a lot faster and that had 2 different engines over its life.. so i guess not just a fluke..

ps running an open kn .. i did try incasing that once with a cold air feed but that made no difference at all really

please help

chris

p.s. getting quite a loud 'hum' from my fuel pump too!!

i replaced ht's with some off another car... and they were fine when the bottom end went... but may try new ones...

airfilter is relatively new... and clean.....

guessing i'll go with the fuel filter next....

how can i check if the fuel pump is squeezing out enough juice...

also what is the likliness of knackered injectors....i have another set but it scares the crap outta me thinking of changing them.

ok laters

I have spare injectors if you want. Only way to check the pump is to drop the tank. Check the pump is rated up to 3 bar. Replace the filter on the fuel pump itself if you are going to do that.

No you can't access the pump from the boot. Yes you can't measure the performance but unless your superman and use xray vision you ain't gonna see the condition of the filter.

cant you just pull a hjose off the inj. rail and stick some sort of pressure gauge there to see what sort of pressure is reaching the rail?

They have access for the floor if you are running a carbed tank, the Injected tanks have two openings one for fuel sender and one for pump IIRC and you can’t access them from the boot without cutting a panel from the boot flooring

You can access the sender, not the pump. Have to drop the tank for that

4 bolts hold the tank on underneath, easy to drop it if the bolts come out

I assume soneji is talkin about the filter at the bottom of the pump

(purposely ignoring jonboys question Razz)

i was looking under the car and noticed it still runs a cat. this doesnt bother me at all but i was thinking could the cat be clogged/ have broken down inside and blocked exhaust gasses. how about revving it and feeling for a really strong blow at the back pipe... would this be suitable to a reasonable guess or do i have to remove it and check it???

well it should feel constant, well pulse at low revs, if the gasses coming out are very weak the cats probably blockig it due to it collapsing.
