Hi there, my first post so be gentle..

Just recently I've had a intermittent problem with starting the engine on my Laguna '98 car. There's no problem with locking/unlocking the car, but when I've gone to switch the key in the ignition the engine doesn't fire up. The electrics are ok as the dashboard lights appear.

I've searched on the net for similar problems and noticed an immobiliser issue. Again, I've no problem with locking/unlocking the car but would this still be a related problem?

Thanks for your help - will provide further info if needed.

Steve.

its more than likely the starter solenoid wire. meganes and lagunas are terrible for problems with them some clios came with a male terminal ont he loom and theres a male terminal on the starter! so it eventually stops working!

Anyway reach roudn the back, find the white solenoid wire and wiggle it, if it now starts up fine thats the problem. What you want to do is squeeze the connector with pliers to make it tight again.

Cheers for the reply Chris,

Another thing I forgot to menton is that if I leave the car for half an hour or so it starts up no problem. It's only when I've tried starting it again soon after I've switched the engine off - would it still be the starter motor you reckon?

Thanks, Steve

sounds like your missing the starter heatshield. there shoudl be a heatshield over the starter to protect it from exhaust heat.
