 Laguna running fault.

hi

I have a Renault Laguna 2.0rt. Not really retro however I do also own a 19 16v.

My Laguna after say 30-40 miles of driving and when the engine or electrics get hot develops a fault. basically you will be driving eg. at 3000rpm all of a sudden the revs drop to 1000rpm and nothing you can do will get them higher. I have though discovered that the car if you turn off the ignition and then back on again will work perfectly for a little while. If however left to cool down for an hour or so then the longer it will run... Can anyone suggest any solutions. cheers

this could be a few things.

We need to know the age of it though.

from the message I would imagine its newish, thus drive by wire effort?

Its only a 1998 S reg. I have today changed 2 x amplifier type things. The ones that the plug leads come from as these played up on my old 2.0 Laguna. Plugs and plug leads look new as looked to have been serviced a short time before I bought it.

S reg shouldn't be drive by wire. So it will only idle at 1krpm even with the throttle to floor?

2 amplifier things, the coil packs I assume?

go look in the prog report section, the laguna 2l report, is it the same engine as that?

Same engine as your sisters Chris. I believe it might be the fuel pump Confused because it is making a constant noise not too loud but can be heard outside the car. This alone would not concern me but the first time the car played up at slow speed I was able to hear the fuel pump, it was much louder at the point it was playing up Shocked . Will keep you posted.

Might pop the pump out and have a look at the wire mesh.

yep thats a good idea, sometimes they are fine, other times they are choked solid with all sorts of crap.

Also change the fuel filter as well.

See when it happens take the fuel filler cap off, see if that sorts it.

Did that already Chis. Once managed to pull into a layby took off the filler cap expecting a woooosh of air however nothing and within a few miles was farting about again. Will get a fuel filter on today and look at the pump. Cheers for feedback, will keep you posted.

Have just removed the pump from the tank. It was encased in a plastic container, unclipped this in order to expose the wire mesh. The mesh itself was partially blocked with what looked like silt. Cleaned this and swilled any CR*p off the inner plastic casing which had a fair bit on it. The good bit so far is that the pump has quitened down. Have just changed the fuel filter also. Will take it for a run later.

Good stuff. Many a pump has died through that happening. Its what killed my chamades old pump.

Have you made sure the fuel tank straps are still there and ok?

Many a laguna incl my sisters has dropped its tank due to them corroding.

As soon as I finished reading your article I got under the car to have a proper look at them. They are still good. wax oiled them up though to try and keep them that way. Have just come back from giving the car a proper run and can report no fault as yet.
