 Manual Rack Conversion

Has anyone got any good info on doing a manual rack conversion on a clio.

I pressume that you can fit the manual rack and column straight on. Its just the aux belt issues when you remove the ps pump.

Anyone seen how this has been done before?

on a 16v you need a 110mm long aux belt you will also need to modify the timing belt cover as the slots the belt goes through will not postioned correctly when you take the ps pump off.

clio is different David.

You need the rack and the column.

Yep, I had this done on my old 16v.

You need a manual steering rack and a manual steering column as the PAS one will be too short. You also need a shorter replacement belt and two brackets to hold the alternator on...i was looking at these parts in dialogies last week and you i'm 95% sure you can get them off a manual steering equipped 1.8 8v F-series engine. I can try and get the car code if need be but its about 50quid for the brackets and another couple of quid for the belt unless you can find them in a scrappy.

Is there any difference between the manual clio racks?

I got a 1.2 and a 1.4, the 1.2 is already being butchered so i'd preferably use the one off there??

those racks are fine, davids belt length should be ok

Not that i know of but i could be wrong.

The one i got from the scrappy for my old 16v was actually from a 1.2 and it was fine...all i had to do was buy new trackrod ends as it was using a different type.

Haynes page 2D.17, figs 5.13 and 5.17.

I think the vehicle code for dialogies etc is 357A if your buying new...the brackets and belt add up to about 50/60quid.

Won't be til weather starts to warm up though.
