finally we got around to sorting this out.

Went to the factors bought a backbox, centre section, clamp, and wiper blades, came to £85.28 all in.

after an age of belting it the exhaust finally came off

new one

its a lot quieter and pulls a lot better. Feels like its gained back a good 10 - 15 horses. Before it would struggle to get to 70 before the end of the slip now it does that with ease.

Hopefully the fuel economy shall improve as well.

I've never known a car to have a worse exhaust for corroding than the meg!

the laguna is a close second.

Although to be fair thats th eoriginal system as was the lagunas, both roughly 9/10 year sold and both over 120k.

I still find it quite amazing what a decent exhaust can do for the running/performance of a car.

I suppose a lot of folk fall into the assumption that the exhaust does very little because it just carries waste gas, it can't make a car run bad because the waste is in the exhaust etc.

indeed ben, indeed.

even fewer realise that the best system in most cases is the standard one.

a leaky exhaust can act the same was as a cam with to much duration/overlap/

A block one the opposite.

both detrimental to power

well to be fair the stock steel one is amazingly long lasting, many ph1's have the original systems on them!

It wasn't that long ago you had to get a new system every 2/3 years!

very true, and also, i expect you know, but the more you use the car, for as long as poss, the less likely it is to rot. as they rot from the inside out, keep it hot and its less likely to rot!

my rover has the standard exhaust on it, and done 89K so far, doubt if it will ever need changing as its always hot

indeed. people that do 5 min journeys build a lot of condensation up in the systems, a small hole drilled in the boxes will allow the water to drain.

standard back boxes have a small one, but the mid section box benefits from it as well.

I hate taking the systems off as most of the time I get very wet!
