Another question about my mates 1.4 Megane. Basically there has been a knocking sound recently which sounded as though it was the exhaust as you would only hear it when going round corners or under acceleration and it's like something swinging back and forth hitting something if you know what I mean. We got under it today and tried shaking the exhaust to see where it was knocking but realised the exhaust wasn't catching at all. After another quick drive we realised that the noise was coming from the front somewhere so I thought it may be the exhaust catching further forward.

After we tried shaking it quite a bit quite far forward though we realised the noise is actually coming from around the area of the front engine mount, on the front o/s where it's attached to the subframe. Basically what I want to check is whether or not there is anything other than the engine mount which could be causing the noise. It's definately from in or around the engine mount the noise is coming from and the rubber in the mount itself is quite badly cracked.

I took a couple of pics to try and show the mount but they didn't come out too well:

What I'm really surprised about tbh is that they re-used that engine mount because it's clearly past it with the way it's cracked but they just recently put a new engine in there but for some reason re-used that. There is a 6 month warranty on the engine itself but I wouldn't think that would cover the engine mount.

How difficult are these to change if it is indeed the problem?

Thanks.

the thing is that it's definately from around that are that the noise is coming. The pictures don't really show how bad the mount is as it does have some massive cracks in it.
